Yes, Georgia, you’ve got a Winter Olympian.

Eighteen years after Herschel Walker shot down the ice in a bobsled, Elana Meyers of Douglasville will be a brakeman on the USA 2 sled with driver Erin Pac of Connecticut.

Meyers, 25, who calls herself a football player at heart, is the daughter of former Atlanta Falcons running back Eddie Meyers.

The powerful 5-8, 180-pounder starred in softball at Lithia Springs High and George Washington University before trying bobsledding in 2007.

How did she pick it?

“I am a bigger girl,” she told the AJC last year. “I’m quick. And it was something different.”

Meyers, who rides in the back of the two-person sled, pushed with driver Shauna Rohbock to win silver at the 2009 World Championship.

Opening ceremonies for the Vancouver Olympics will be held Friday, with the Games running through Feb. 28. Meyers will compete Feb. 23-24 at the Whistler Sliding Centre near Vancouver.

While Walker’s two-man bobsled team finished seventh in 1992, Atlanta resident Randy Jones was part of the 4-man team that took silver in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. It was the first American medal in men’s bobsledding in more than four decades.
