In her newly appointed role as Spokeswoman for “Saving Our Daughters” Book Campaign, Chrisette Michele will host the first Hip-Hop 4 Education Initiative on October 3 at the Bishop L. Cornelius Multi-Purpose Center on the campus of Clark Atlanta University during their annual homecoming festivities and BET Hip-Hop Awards Weekend.

Producers of the “Follow the Leader” film documentary and organizers of the “Saving Our Daughters” Book Campaign has partnered to produce a series of Hip-Hop 4 Education events nationwide to examine and discuss Hip-Hop and its impact on education in inner-city schools.

The Hip-Hop 4 Education initiative is presented by The Source Magazine, RollingOut.com, Live-N-Direct Multimedia and sponsored in part by Rick Ross Charities, Inc. and E. Mason & Associates.

The free and open to the public event will kick off with a special red carpet arrivals which will include invited celebrities in addition to children overcoming adversity or has excelled academically in school. The program will start with a meet and greet filled with entertainment, live performances and a stay in school empowerment session. Preserve Our Legacy, Inc. will organize an onsite bone marrow drive in an effort to fulfill their mission to educate minorities about the benefits of stem cells and treatment options they provide for health disparities. To inspire and provide hope for children in attendance, Chrisette Michelle will invite children to read selections from the “Saving Our Daughters” book series.

Chrisette Michele explains, “I support ‘Saving Our Daughters’ and the efforts of the “Follow the Leader” movement and what they stand for because as artist, it’s our duty to nurture, educate and provide hope for kids everywhere that might be going through some type of adversity in their lives”.

The “Follow the Leader” filmmakers will screen the short-film version of the documentary that focuses on Hip-Hop and sheds light on its impact on education in inner-city schools. The film screening will open the floor to a panel discussion on a wide range of topics to include peer pressure, gang violence and more. A question and answer segment will be conducted in hopes of finding resolutions to some of the problems discussed. The Hip-Hop 4 Education initiative will conclude with a private reception to acknowledge the many supporters, sponsors and organizations that made the event possible. Chrisette Michele and Rick Ross Charities, Inc will also treat invited youth groups to complementary haircuts and grooming.
