According to PCMag.com (via TheSmokingGun) a South Carolina woman was tricked into buying a piece of wood decorated to look like an iPad. You can’t make this stuff up.

Ashley McDowell, 22, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, filed an incident report on Monday night with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office (hat tip: The Smoking Gun). She claims two black men approached her in a McDonald’s parking lot selling iPads for $300 a pop.

Thinking that this was the deal of a lifetime McDowell haggled the men down to $180 and they handed her a Fedex box from the trunk of their  white Impala. After she sped off thinking she was about to play “Angry Birds” on her new iPad, she opened the box to find this:

The con artists covered a piece of a wood with a screenshot of an actual iPad and an Apple logo. Needless to say she was not laughing. McDowell contacted local authorities who dusted it for finger prints and took the above photo. If the men are caught they could face up to 90 days in jail and a $1000 fine.  I think the $180 is her Idiot tax for thinking she could buy an iPad in a McDonald’s parking out the back of an Impala. #Cmonson.
