Queen Latifah didn’t officially come out of the closet this weekend, but when she appeared at the 20th Annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival her message was clear: the LGBT community deserves our love and respect.

The actress and hip hop icon was a huge hit with the crowd as she performed some of her classics like “U.N.I.T.Y.” and “Ladies First.”

“I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time,” Latifah said from the stage, and then added that she was proud to be among “her people.”

Queen Latifah has never commented on her sexuality but lesbian rumors have followed the star for years.

As the 4th largest gay pride celebration in the country, the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride event takes place every year and draws tens of thousands of folks from all over.
