MTV has released the top 5 of its Hottest MCs in the Game list, and Kendrick Lamar comes in at number one, followed by ATL’s own 2 Chainz.

Kendrick Lamar’s critically-acclaimed debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city topped a lot of lists as 2012’s best album, and the Compton rapper received the top ranking by unanimous decision during MTV’s roundtable made up of bloggers, journalists and industry tastemakers.

2 Chainz landed on the list in the runner up slot. Rick Ross fell from last year’s position at number one to number three. Nas made his debut on the much debated hip-hop ranking in the fourth spot with Drake and A$AP Rocky trailing at numbers five and eight respectively.

Kanye West came in at number seven and blasted the list in a radio interview with DJ Enuff. “Number 7 bothers me. Wayne is the number one rapper in the world,” Kanye told Enuff. Yay also slammed the list for not taking into account the artist’s full body of work. However, he was appreciative that his G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean came in at number six.

Lil Wayne thanked Yay for the compliment in this tweet:
