According to USA Today, Amari Spievey, a Detroit Lions safety, was arrested in Middletown, CT, after a dispute with his live-in girlfriend. The police report alleges that Spievey and Santos got into an argument about 4 p.m. Tuesday over child support after Spievey told their daughter “not to be like her mother.” Spievey,  is accused of putting his hand around the neck of his girlfriend, Lisa Marie Santos, and pushing her while he carried their 2-year-old daughter.

Spievey claims his live in girlfriend, Lisa Marie Santos grabbed his throat three times and threw numerous punches at his chest. Police did not observe any evidence of injury on him though. Conversely, Santos said Spievey pushed her twice but did not choke her. However officers observed Santos had “a small red mark on the front right side of her neck,” according to the report.

Spievey was charged with Class C felony third-degree assault, Class A misdemeanor risk of injury to a child and Class C misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Santos also was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct.

They were released on a $5,000 bond and appeared in Middletown Superior Court yesterday. Judge David P. Gold issued protective orders against both Spievey and Santos.

Spievey was forced to vacate the home and was escorted back to the premises to get his belongings while Santos was allowed to remain in the family home. Their next family court  date has been set for April 11.
