Jameka Leonard is a 27-year-old single mother with a seven year old daughter named Jassiah. When Jassiah was a toddler Jameka was diagnosed with brain cancer.  Through the years of this horrific yet heroic battle (she has beaten it and been diagnosed with it again recently) her daughter was right there holding her hand but also asking lots of questions, as I’m sure most kids would.

Jameka Leonard and her daughter Jassiah.

This prompted Jameka to write a children’s book titled “Whats Wrong With Mommy” to help kids understand what cancer is and what it means:

The idea is to enlighten children about the disease and to not be frightened as the book follows a seven year old girl who learns through her grandmother that her mother has cancer. The grandmother takes on the role of  explaining cancer and the medicine and treatments designed to “fix her mommy.”

Jameka even let her daughter put her magic on it allowing her to illustrate the cover.
