Remember the time when actor/writer/rapper/producer/nerd Donald Glover jokingly advocated for himself to play Spider-Man in the recent rebooted film series? Well, it’s not a joke anymore.

Glover has been cast to voice Miles Morales, the current Ultimate Spider-Man in the comics, in an upcoming dimension-hopping episode of “Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors”. The episode will focus on Peter Parker (Drake Bell) as he tries to prevent the Green Goblin from collecting the DNA of several Spider-Men across dimensions, including the Iron Spider, Amazing Spider-Girl, Spider-Man 2099, and of course Miles Morales.

When asked about the role by USA Today, Glover had this to say:

I don’t think it’s hit me necessarily yet how big of a deal that is. I’m very grateful for that, and it’s cool to read the comic now.

It’s fitting that Glover was approached by Marvel to provide the voice of Morales, seeing as how writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli based his look on both Glover and President Barack Obama. It’s good to see that Marvel still believes that Spider-Man can be anybody.

The episode will air as a part of the “Spider-Verse” arc in 2015 on Disney XD.
