DeKalb County school officials have announced the suspension of all marching band activities following the alleged hazing incidents at Florida A&M University.

School system officials announced Wednesday that all marching band activities in DeKalb would be suspended pending an investigation of possible inappropriate behavior among band members, alumni advisors, band directors and others.

Robert Champion, the FAMU drum major who died in an incident widely believed to be connected to hazing, and another FAMU band member, Bria Shante Hunter, who was badly injured in an alleged hazing incident, graduated from Southwest DeKalb.

Two of three FAMU band members charged with injuring Hunter also graduated from Southwest, while the third defendant was a Druid Hills High graduate. FAMU has recruited heavily at Southwest DeKalb for years.

The school system’s investigation could take two months.
