Hip-Hop is an arena where homophobia is commonplace. There hasn’t been a rapper with wide mainstream success to come out as gay  or bisexual. It looks like the gay community might have a hip-hop representative in Azealia Banks. She has been hailed as The Next Big Thing and in a recent interview with The New York Times, Banks was quoted saying:

“Ms. Banks considers herself bisexual, but, she said: “I’m not trying to be, like, the bisexual, lesbian rapper. I don’t live on other people’s terms.'”

Although Azealia Banks doesn’t want to be the poster child for bisexuality in hip-hop, if she blows up the way tastemakers are predicting, she just might be thrust into the role. The question is will she be able to handle it? Only time will tell.
