Original Hot Boys rapper Turk is finally a free man after serving nearly nine years on felony weapons charges.

The rapper (real name Tab Virgil, Jr.) was released from the Forrest City, Arkansas Federal Prison on Friday (October 12). He had served nearly a decade sentence for a highly publicized shoot out with Tennessee S.W.A.T. Team members in Memphis in 2004.

Following his release, Turk called into New Orleans radio station Q93.3 for his first, post-prison interview. In the interview Turk addressed rumors of signing to Lil Wayne’s YMCMB label.

“I’m waiting on [Mack Maine] to hit me up and see what they talking about, but, you know, it’s in the air. [Nothing is] final right now, I’m just gonna say it’s in the air,” the rapper said.

Turk is currently prepping a book, The AutoThugography of Turk, and a screenplay titled Reckless.
