The strange saga of Notre Dame football star Manti Te’o and his fictitious girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, has riveted the nation.

In one of the strangest sports stories in history, Deadspin.com broke the news that the dead girlfriend of Heisman Trophy runner-up Manti Te’o never existed and was a hoax. Te’o claims that he played no role in the deception and was the victim of a cruel hoax.

In this interview with Katie Couric on ABC’s “Katie,” Te’o goes into elaborate detail about the incident and says what he thinks should happen to Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man allegedly behind the hoax. He also addresses whether the online relationship scandal will affect his career as he prepares for the NFL Draft. Te’o’s parents were also on the show.
