"Top Five" Premiere - 2014 Toronto International Film Festival

Leslie Jones has just gotten a huge promotion on “Saturday Night Live.” She’s moving from the writer’s room to the stage!

Shadow And Act reports that the Leslie has been added to the cast of “SNL.” She was originally brought onboard as a writer after auditioning during the same casting call where producers found Sasheer Zamata.

Sasheer Zamata made her debut in February back in January as Drake hosted the show and acted as the musical guest. Behind the scenes, Leslie put her funny to use dreaming up sketches, but five months into her run, she came under fire for her “No. 1 Slave Draft Pick” bit during “Weekend Update.”

It seems that Leslie has recovered nicely from that that incident as she has appeared on “Weekend Update” a couple more times since that infamous sketch aired.

News of Leslie’s comes about a month after it was announced that Sasheer would be returning for another season on “SNL.” That means the sketch comedy show will officially have two Black women on the cast at the same time. This is the first time that has ever happened in the series history! Look at you, “SNL,” being all progressive. ‘Bout time!
