Tennessee v Georgia

The University of Georgia plans to apply to the NCAA today (October 22) for the reinstatement of star running back Todd Gurley, who has been suspended indefinitely from the team since October 9 for allegedly receiving money for signing autographs.

Gurley was a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy and was leading the SEC with 773 rushing yards and had scored eight touchdowns in the first five games for Georgia.

“Todd has confirmed his desire to seek reinstatement, and the University fully supports Todd’s request,” the university said in a statement. “The University hopes for and expects a prompt ruling by the NCAA so that Todd, his coaches, and teammates can adequately prepare for our next game.”

In the two games that Gurley missed, freshman Nick Chubb has started at running back and has rushed for 345 yards and three touchdowns as the number 9 Bulldogs defeated Missouri and Arkansas on the road.

“I want to thank the University, coaches, teammates, and the Bulldog Nation for their patience and support,” Gurley said in the statement. “I take full responsibility for the mistakes I made, and I can’t thank the University, my coaches, and teammates enough for supporting me throughout this process. I’m looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates.”
