CNN is coming out guns blazing against Bill Cosby and his legal team’s allegations they are showing bias toward alleged victim Beverly Johnson. Cosby’s attorney Martin Singer sent the news network’s president Jeff Zucker a scathing letter last Friday accusing CNN of omitting an interview with Johnson’s former live-in boyfriend Mark Burk denouncing her claims Cosby drugged her in 1986. Johnson wrote an essay in Vanity Fair this month charging Cosby invited her to his home under the pretense of auditioning for a guest starring role on his self-titled comedy show. There, Johnson claims Cosby laced her cappuccino with drugs and tried to assault her but she managed to get away.

According to Burk, who was in a relationship with the supermodel from 2006-2009, CNN reporters contacted him where he revealed Johnson never confided in him about the alleged incident. Burk claims Johnson only spoke about Cosby in high regards and even considered him a mentor.  Singer charges, CNN reporters tried to force Burk into corroborating Johnson’s claims for their upcoming special on Cosby but he stuck to his story. Once reporters weren’t able to convince Burk into backing Johnson’s allegations, Singer claims the journalist started to attack Burk’s character. Singer insists CNN decided to drop Burk from the show, even after he tried to offer proof Johnson’s story was fabricated.

CNN responded to Singer’s accusations stating Burk has an axe to grind against Johnson and wasn’t in her life when the alleged encounter took place. TMZ is reporting, CNN maintains Burk isn’t a credible rebuttal witness due to his criminal past and had numerous restraining orders filed against him by Johnson, who he also attempted to sue for palimony. CNN remarked:

What you neglected to inform CNN about Mr. Burk was that he has a history of threatening and abusive behavior towards Ms. Johnson. Indeed, he is the subject of multiple restraining orders relating to her. This includes choking Ms. Johnson and even threatening to kill her, for which he pled guilty, was convicted and a criminal protective order was issued. Burk suggested to CNN that this conviction was subsequently vacated, but a review of the dockets shows only that it was affirmed several months later. CNN even had a California attorney search the docket for anything that supported Burk’s claim. No record of the conviction being vacated was found.
