The Senegalese-born musician has always been involved in several projects that contribute to Africa’s development, and this time is using African skills and personnel in engineering, labor, and intelligence to bring entire communities across the continent, solar power. The idea is to teach communities how to use solar power to alleviate development set backs, as well as encourage entrepreneurship that will further empower people in their communities. Africans who go through this program will be able to gain numerous skills that they can use outside of the institute. But the move itself, should create jobs as well.

The sustainable plan for Akon Lighting Africa is also to prevent the deaths of millions of Africans who suffer because of lack of electricity. So not only is Akon potentially saving lives, empowering people to have sustainable livelihoods, he is also doing it in a green way. Needless to say, we wish Akon all the best in this endeavor!
