2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors - Arrivals

Earl “DMX” Simmons was released from jail on Friday, but there’s a chance he could be headed right back.

The iconic rapper was sentenced to six months behind bars after he reportedly failed to pay $400,000 in back child support. DMX claims he didn’t know he owed his child’s mother money, and will go to court so a judge can determine whether or not his defense is true.

According to Billboard, DMX will finish his sentence if it is determined that he intentionally did not pay.

At the time of his arrest, it was reported that DMX had $400,000 worth of unpaid child support, a warrant issued by the city of White Plains for bail jumping and a robbery complaint out of Newark, N.J. No charges were filed in the Newark case.

DMX’s first five albums all debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Hopefully, he’s able to settle this matter quickly, so that he can get back to being in his kids’ lives. We will continue to keep you updated.
