OJ Simpson Criminal Trial - Simpson Tries on Blood Stained Gloves - June 15, 1995

Over 20 years ago, American crime was forever changed. And, it’s all thanks to man named O.J. Simpson.

As we fast forward to the present, one network plans to relive the infamous trial over again.

Directed by Ryan Murphy, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Sarah Paulson, David Schwimmer and other notable actors will bring the story of O.J. Simpson back to life in FX’s American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson.

The film, which is set to be the premiere of the American Crime series, will take a closer look at every aspect of murder case, and stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. as O.J.

In an interview with THR, Cuba speaks of the intense emotions he battled while on set.

He recalled, “There was one day after filming that I went to my trailer and I couldn’t stop crying because I realized I never [even considered the loss] for the Goldman or Brown family.

From the start of filming for the movie, however, all actors were discouraged from contacting the characters they were portraying.

Regardless of the cautionary advice, Cuba had no desire to contact O.J.

He said, “I have a lot of friends and family who are incarcerated, and I know what that jail cell does to your psyche. I didn’t want him to take me into that frame of mind.”

Cuba went on to add, “He was the O.J. Simpson whom everyone loved — not just an athlete but a movie star — and in that cage, he’s a broken man. Now, if I did a movie about O.J. Simpson in jail, I would do everything I could to sit with him and get into his mindset today, but I wanted to understand who he was when this crime happened.

While the highly-anticipated film has sparked debate among many eager fans on Twitter, there is one person, in particular, who feels rather indifferent on the matter: Khloe Kardashian.

She tweeted:

There is no word if the Kardashian family will attend the premiere, but for the public, you can view the film Feb. 2 on FX.

O.J. — who began his lucrative career as an NFL player and parlayed his fame into celebrity appearances and big social-status — witnessed his life changed forever in June of 1994 when his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman were both found stabbed to death in Brown’s L.A. condo.

From then, the most infamous case in the world proceeded: The O.J. Simpson murder trial, better known as “The Trial of the Century.”

More than 150 million viewers across the nation watched on during the trial, motivated by race and politics, making it one of the most-watched trials in history.

The former football player and his “dream team” of lawyers (Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., F. Lee Bailey, Robert Shapiro, Robert Kardashian and Alan Dershowitz) battled in court for over eight months, and the trial was televised for 135 days.

And, on the morning on October 3, 1995, after an almost four-hour deliberation, the jury found O.J. innocent on both charges of first-degree murder.

It was “The Trial of the Century” indeed.
