Latrice Hurst is currently advocating for parents to better monitor their children’s access to social media after her son, Davorius Gray lost his life playing an online game.

According to WYFF, the 11-year-old participated in the popular social media game, “hangman and pass-out challenge” where kids choke themselves until they become unconscious. Gray was recently found dead in his South Carolina home.

Hurst says that her son simply took the game too far but he had previously showed no signs of depression or destructive behavior.

“If I could rewind time, I would go back and heavily monitor his use of social media, YouTube and the Internet,” she said in a statement.

“I would just say, I don’t believe young people should be on social media and it should be limited to adults, or at the very least, with extreme adult supervision — where the parents can see everything that takes place on the sites — should be a requirement.”

Mark Pangel, pastor of 4 Points Church in South Carolina has been consoling the family in their time of need. “It was the most humbling experience in my life because little Nae, his 8-year-old sister is in there, and she’s stoic and hurting and doesn’t know how to react. And I wanted to fix it and there’s literally nothing I could do,” said Pangel.

He also added, “Davorius was seriously one of the sweetest kids I’ve ever met. He was the one that would come up to you and hug you. He was always smiling.”

The Coroner’s Office and police are investigating Gray’s death.
