Lifetime is aggressively trying to rebrand their network and appeal to millennials. Serena Williams and Janet Jackson as well as Selena Gomez and Ronda Rousey have secured deals with the network to produce new TV and film projects.

Here are the details of Serena and Janet’s new projects via Deadline:

Williams will executive produce the movie Sister Dance (working title), inspired by the annual dance-off competition she hosts with her sister Venus.

Jackson will executive produce the story of 1920s New York City mobster, Queenie (working title). The true story centers on the first and only woman gangster during Prohibition, set against the backdrop of The Cotton Club. Kenny Leon (A Raisin In The Sun) will direct.

According to Jezebel, Lifetime’s Executive VP Liz Gateley says there’s a conscious effort to shift the narrative of programming away from women “in peril”.

Instead they want, “…characters who exhibit those things that they don’t feel the giddy-up to do every day.”

Serena and Janet and apart of what the network is calling their “fempire.”

“If you think about it, what feminism means for millennials is simply equality,” added Gateley. “But what we wanted is a word that [all ages] would hear and not have to fear it meant we’d be preachy or earnest with our fists in the air.”

Beauties, are you already a fan of Lifetime? Are you interested in seeing Janet and Serena as producers?
