Louisiana Gov. John Bel declared “unprecedented,” and “historic flooding,” in areas that displaced 20,000 people and left four people dead. Bel warned of more danger, saying that water levels would continue to rise. During a news conference on Sunday, officials said over 10,000 people were placed in emergency shelters. The latest casualty was confirmed Sunday when a 59-year-old man drowned after he was swept away by the current while walking along a road in Tangipahoa City on Friday. According to National Weather Service, heavy rain beat down on Friday, accumulating 6-10 inches on the southeast parts of the state, with several more inches on Saturday. Gov. Court Finds North Carolina Voting Districts “Racially Gerrymandered” And Unconstitutional

Three judges ruled Thursday that 28 of North Carolina’s 170 state legislative districts are unconstitutional and ordered the state Legislature to redraw voting maps, but the re-organization won’t come before November elections. Covington v. the State of North Carolina, examined whether state Republicans severely depended on race to redraw voting districts in 2011. The ruling comes less than three weeks after Common Core sued the state over racially gerrymandered congressional districts, and a separate ruling that struck down controversial voting restrictions including, ID requirements, a ban on same day registration, and cuts to early voting. Fencer Darryl Homer Becomes Celebrates Historic Win In Rio Olympics

Homer, 26, who hails from the Virgin Islands, made history over the weekend, becoming the first American man to win a silver medal in an individual sabre in 112 years at the Olympics. “I’m just very, very pleased,” Homer said to USA Today. “Just happy to be on the podium, happy that I competed, happy that I left it all out there. I think I just overthought the match a little bit, got a little of the heebie-jeebies.” Homer, ranked 110th in the world, lost to rival Aron Szilagyi of Hungary, 15-8. Read more.


Seth Rogen’s “Sausage Party,” Grossed Over $34 Million In The Midst Of Racial Controversy

Comedian Seth Rogen’s newest hit, doesn’t sit well with a few folks, as a hail of critics tweeted their displeasure with alleged racism in the film. The controversy revolves around racial stereotypes in casting and characters, including an arabic loaf of lavash, an Irish potato, a Native American bottle of firewater, and actress Salma Hayek playing the voice to a Mexican Taco. Aside from all of the displeasure, the movie still grossed high at the box office to the tune of $34 million. This isn’t Rogen’s first time at the rodeo–many boycotted his previous film, The Interview, which centered around a plot to kill North Korea’s leader. Read more.
