Free agent Joe Johnson is staying with the Atlanta Hawks, his agent said in a blog published in the Huffington Post website on Sunday. Arn Tellem, Johnson's agent, said that Johnson was impressed with the team's commitment to him and would accept the club's offer of the six years at the NBA's maximum salary.

When it came time for the Atlanta Hawks to pick in the draft Thursday night, they liked enough players still available that they felt comfortable making a trade to move down. The move paid off for the Hawks. They still got a player they coveted, Xavier guard Jordan Crawford, while also acquiring another second-round draft pick.

The Atlanta Hawks officially hired Larry Drew as its head coach on Sunday by signing him to a two-year contract with an option for a third year. Atlanta decided on Drew, its former assistant coach, on Friday and worked out the contract details over the weekend

The Hawks decided not to offer coach Mike Woodson a new contract, the team announced today. Woodson coached the Hawks for six seasons. The team improved its record in each of the last five years, including a 53-29 record this season that was fifth-best in franchise history.

The Atlanta Hawks have unfortunately lost their last two playoff games against the Milwaukee Bucks, tying the series at 2-2, but the home team got a bit of good news today. Although it was largely expected, Hawks guard Jamal Crawford was named the NBA’s sixth man of the year.
