Is Jay-Z Cheating His Own Charity Out Of Money?

Despite Lil Wayne’s claims, Jay-Z is widely considered the best rapper living. His talent has afforded the former Marcy Projects resident trips to St. Tropez and luxury apartments in New York City. As nice as the money is for Jigga, he gives charitable donations to different organizations. Or does he?

According to reports, hip-hop’s biggest figure only gave his own charity, The Shawn Carter Foundation, $6,431 in 2010. Jay-Z walked home with $67 million that year. In the same year, Beyonce made $87 million, after taxes, and contributed nary a copper penny to her husband’s scholarship foundation.

Carter did just perform two sold out shows at Carnegie Hall where the proceeds were split between The Shawn Carter Foundation and the United Way of New York. Tickets ranged in price from $150 – $15,000. We know the total amount of ticket sales raised a nice sum of money for the charities, but exactly how much is actually going to the charities?

Jay-Z performed at Carnegie Hall last night in a concert benefiting the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Foundation.

Celebs such as Jay-Z’s wife Beyonce, Nas, Alicia Keys, Liza Minnelli and Jessica White attended the concert at the legendary venue. This was only the second time a rap artist has performed at Carnegie Hall. Wyclef Jean made history in 2001 when he became the first hip hop artist to headline Carnegie Hall.

According to reports, Jay-Z and Beyonce have selected godparents for their daughter Blue Ivy Carter: Oprah Winfrey and Ty Ty! As the best friend of Jay-Z, Ty Ty being named the godfather isn’t a surprise, but Oprah definitely is.

Where Blue Ivy Carter Was Conceived

Yes, Oprah Winfrey has had both Jay-Z and Beyonce on her talk show, but Kelly Rowland was a more likely choice for godmother duties.

Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club Closed Over Busted Fridge

It was “grand re-opening, grand closing” for Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club this week. After celebrating a facelift with the likes of Warren Buffett on Wednesday night, Hov’s swanky club was shut down the next day by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for health code violations.

However, TMZ has learned that the cause of the violations (food being stored at improper temperatures, etc) was a faulty fridge that died moments before opening.

Ron Berkowitz, a rep for the club, says one of the refrigerators blew minutes before the health inspector arrived causing the temperature in the fridge to rise. No food from said fridge was served and patrons of Blue Ivy’s dad can look forward to doing their Cupid Shuffle over shrimp cocktail any day now.

Jay-Z re-opened his New York 40/40 nightclub after closing it last summer for renovations. Though his wifey Bey stayed home with the baby, the mogul hit the red carpet alongside Russell Simmons, Swizz Beatz, Ashanti and Selita Ebanks.

The ladies stole the show: Selita (who came arm-in-arm with new boyfriend Terrence J) wore a cream-colored dress with multi-print shoes and a fur coat, while Ashanti kept it simpler in a black satin gown with a plunging neckline.

In her first interview since having her daughter Blue Ivy Carter, Beyonce is every bit the gushing new mom you’d expect. But she also defended the precautions she and husband Jay-Z took to protect their privacy during the birth.

In the wake of the birth there were several reports that other parents were kept from seeing their children due to security restrictions at Lenox Hill hospital placed by the Carters.

Beyonce defended the hospital lockdown in an exclusive interview with Star magazine:

“Security was very tight, not for the sake of it. It was for the security of our daughter.”

When asked about being a new mother, Bey said:

“Nothing can describe the feeling. You have the instant connection once you know your child is growing inside you, but when you hold it for the first time, the words can’t be found.”

Beyonce announced to the world that she was with child at the 2011 VMA’s during her performance of “Love On Top.”

We still haven’t seen Jay-Z, Beyonce or their baby, Blue Ivy Carter, since they left Lexon Hill Hospital earlier this week, but thanks to TMZ, we get a chance to see the luxury delivery suite where Bey gave birth.

The delivery room had flat screen TV’s, a kitchenette, plush furnishings, and state of the art electronics. Lexon Hill is reporting that the delivery room was not made specifically for Beyonce, but she was the first to use it. The bed shown is where Jay Z reportedly slept.

Kanye West’s “Big Brother” is a tearjerker dedicated to his idol and onetime Def Jam boss Jay-Z. The track from his 2007 album Graduation and certainly is a fan favorite.

Kanye’s cousin and background vocalist Tony Williams took footage from the Graduation recording sessions and caught quite a moment: Jay hearing “Big Brother” for the first time. So how did he react?

“That’s emotional,” Jay says in the clip. “If the camera wasn’t on, I’d be saying some other s—. But I’ll wait till later.”

Beyonce’s pimped out Mercedes Benz van was seen making a grand exit from Lenox Hospital this morning.

The Daily News reports:

“A procession of vehicles with blacked-out windows made a speedy exit from the upper East Side hospital’s side gate in the wee hours of Tuesday, witnesses said. Two black SUVs motored quickly out of the facility’s E. 76th St. loading dock at 1:30 a.m. Moments later, a van parked on a nearby corner reversed into the same loading dock, and the large roll-down gate closed. The gate reopened a few minutes later and the van drove out, turned the wrong way on the one-way 76th St., and then headed north on Park Ave. One of the two SUVs blocked traffic on Park Ave. so the van would not be impeded.”

Lenox Hill Hospital Executive Director Frank Danza also says: “The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true.”
