In lieu of receiving lavish gifts for his 3oth birthday, rapper Lil Wayne gave a huge gift to the city of New Orleans. Weezy opened the Trukstop Skatepark in the Lower Ninth Ward of the Crescent City.

Wayne decided to open up the skatepark in the Lower Ninth Ward because it is the most devastated area in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. Once the ribbon cutting ceremony was finished, Weezy hopped on his skateboard and gave a demo as to how to skate in the facility. The mountain Dew Pro and Amateur skate teams were on hand to help Wayne out. Fans were excited to see skaters Paul Rodriguez and Theotis Beasley.

“I didn’t think that skating was too popular in my city, so I wanted to make it something that everybody loves like I do,” Lil Wayne said to news publications. “I just wanted to help out my city, help out the people, the kids, and give them something to do, something they haven’t done before. It’s always good to learn something new.”

Wayne went on to say skating isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle choice for him. “It’s a lifestyle. It’s not just something to do. I thought it would be just a hobby and I thought only people with skill can do it. When you finally get into it and you learn to like it, you’ll quickly learn to love it and you find out that it’s a lifestyle.”
