Philly’s native son Meek Mill is the hottest young rappers out. His success is even sweeter to him considering he almost didn’t have a rap career. Back in 2008, Meek was sent to prison on a gun charge. Don’t feel bad for Meek Mill, he says prison helped start to fully focus on his musical aspirations.

While spending eight months of his life behind bars, he was forced to look at thee crossroad he was in his life and choose a direction. Meek spent a lot of his impressionable years ripping and running the streets and getting into trouble. In a recent interview with XXL, meek detailed his prison experience and the positives that came out of the negative experience.

At one point Meek Mill says, “I’m just a natural hustler. Before anybody even ever heard of me, I had money,” he said. “When I got signed, I had $250,000 – I was like 21. I was just a natural born hustler. Before I went to jail, I used to be a slouch. I used to smoke weed; things like that… I had my own little conversation with God, and I feel as though the message that I was sent was, ‘If you want to be in the street, this is where you can go [or] you could put your whole life into this rap thing, and you could go somewhere’…I just put my life into it.”
