World Humanitarian Day is August 19 and megastar Beyoncé Knowles-Carter joined Global Aid Organizations in bringing awareness to this pivotal day of unity and purpose.

Performing in the United Nation’s General Assembly Hall on August 10, Beyoncé  recorded a  video entitled, “I Was Here.” The stunning video, featuring stirring and powerful imagery of humanity around the globe, was directed by Kenzo Digital and Sophie Muller, with production by Scott Robinson.

Donating her time and music to this cause, the singer, who has also worked with Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) and amfAR, a foundation for AIDS research, explained why she pledged her commitment to this cause.

Previously, the singer — who has recently been accused of turning her back on social responsibility– was asked why she chooses to remain quiet about her charity work. Beyoncé  acknowledged that might not be the best tactic and that she was actively working to change that:

“I’ve realized that sometimes it helps a cause more if I talk publicly about it,” she said. “That’s what increases awareness.”

As was previously reported by NewsOne, she performed “I Was Here” in front of a star-studded crowd that actress Julia Stiles, R&B recording artist The-Dream and songwriter Diane Warren, who wrote the song.
