According to Radar Online, a San Francisco news station got pranked Friday when they aired fake names of what they thought were the pilots aboard Asiana Flight 214 that crashed on Saturday.

While discussing the awful accident from Saturday, a KTVU news anchor reported that the pilot names have been released through the National Transportation Safety Board.

Said the anchor,

“We have new information now, also on the plane crash. KTVU has just learned the names of the four pilots who were onboard the flight. They are Captain Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk and Bang Ding Ow. The NTSB has confirmed these are the names of the pilots on board Flight 214 when it crashed.”

Take a look.

They cleared those names through the National Transportation Safety Board! Which means they both got punked!

Upon learning of the mistake both agencies made statements.

KTVU said,

“Earlier in the newscast we gave some names of pilots involved in the Asiana Airlines crash. These names were not accurate despite an NTSB official in Washington confirming them late this morning. We apologize for the error.”

The NTSB for its part in the debacle said,

“A summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority and erroneously confirmed the names to the station.”

Those names were clearly mean made up prank names and not the actual names of the real airline crew. Had anyone just read over the copy they probably would have figured it out pretty quickly. But they didn’t!

Some people have too much time on their hands.
