Jerame Reid

New Jersey police have released dashboard camera footage of officers involved in the shooting death of an unarmed man. On the night of Dec. 30, Bridgeton police officer, Braheme Days and his partner Roger Worley pulled over driver Leroy Tutt and his passenger Jerame Reid for allegedly running a stop sign. The Associated Press  is reporting the exchange at first is friendly with officers but changes soon afterwards. Days, who is black alerts Worley, who is white about a gun being in the glove compartment of Tutt’s Jaguar. Both Tutt and Reid are black. Days starts to yell for both men to show their hands, which Tutt does automatically. Reid doesn’t at first. Days continues to yell at both men, when he reaches inside the car and removes the gun. Days yells to Reid:

I’m going to shoot you, Jerame. You’re going to be f—ing dead. If you reach for something, you’re going to be f—ing dead.

Days is heard telling Worley about Reid reaching for something where the deceased father of one tells the officers:

I ain’t doing nothing. I’m not reaching for nothing, bro. I ain’t got no reason to reach for nothing.

Soon afterwards Reid tells the officers he was getting out of the car and going to lay on the ground. Moments later both officers demand Reid stay where he was, but he steps out of the car with his empty hands raised prompting the officers to fire six rounds and killing him. Weeks since Reid’s death, protests have occurred in the town which has a predominate minority population of 25,000. Demonstrators are mirroring the protests in Ferguson, Mo and New York City, after officers killed unarmed black men Michael Brown and Eric Garner, demanding answers and justice for Reid. Both officers Days and Worley are on leaving pending the investigation.
