Word in these internet streets is that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are planning to release a joint album exclusively to Tidal users. While there is no official confirmation from the Carters or their respective camps, Vibe reports that, according to DJ Skee, the project is in the works and will be on its way to subscribers soon.

This rumor comes on the heels of news that Tidal is not performing as well as Jay and co. had originally anticipated. Earlier this week, BRG reported that Tidal had plummeted from the top 20 iPhone download chart; the sudden dismissal of Andy Chen, who had been CEO of Tidal’s parent company, Aspiro (which Jay-Z purchased for $56 million earlier this year), last week has been called a move intended to “streamline” Tidal’s staff. Critics of the services have taken Jay-Z et al to task for employing megastars like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, and Rihanna to launch the streaming service; while Tidal claims it will deliver greater revenue to artists compared to its lead competitors, Pandora and Spotify, many felt that using what could be called the top 1% of recording artists to sell the product to consumers sent a mixed message, and showed that the app’s creators were out of touch. Even so, Tidal is still in its infancy and, not unlike any new technologies that hit the marketplace, it will take time to work out the kinks. Acting CEO Peter Tonstad pointed to the staffing shake-ups as an opportunity to focus the company’s resources to enhancing users’ experience and building out the platform.

In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see if a Jay & Bey album is truly in the works.
