Sandra Bland’s Family Demands Independent Autopsy After FBI Launches Investigation On Prison Death

According to Cannon Lambert, the attorney for Sandra Bland’s family, Bland’s relatives have ordered a separate autopsy to find answers on how their loved one mysteriously died in a Texas prison. Lambert said that as of yesterday, he is expecting results within 48 to 72 hours. A few days ago it was revealed that the cop who stopped Bland while driving in her car had violated procedures. Now the FBI has gotten involved in the case to determine the circumstances of Bland’s death. Read more at the New York Times.

American Airlines Accused Of Using N-Word, Racially Segregating Employees

American Airlines is being accused of racial discrimination by over 80 employees. The employees, largely of African American descent as well as other miscellaneous racial/ethnic groups, have sent a letter to US Attorney General Loretta Lynch stating that the Philly chapter of the airlines company has referred to employees by racially derogatory terms like the n-word and segregated recreational rooms, control rooms, teams and work assignments. The group of employees is also claiming that areas where predominantly Black employees worked were given pet names like “jungle,” “ghetto,” “Darfur,” “Black Panther break room” and “chocolate break room.” Read more at The Root.

Nigerian President Appeals To US For More Military Aid For The Boko Haram

Today, Muhammadu Buhari, leader of Nigeria, met with President Barack Obama to discuss security aid for the African nation against terrorist group Boko Haram. Defeating the Boko Haram was Buhari’s main lobbying point during his historic run for president against incumbent Goodluck Jonathan. However, despite Buhari’s military background, his administration has yet to make any significant strides against the Boko Haram in the four months he has been in office. Turkish Border City Hit By Terrorist Attack

Explosion in southeastern Turkey kills 30

Over two dozen people are dead and approximately 100 more are wounded after an explosion was set off in Suruc, Turkey. No one has claimed the attack, but Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has insinuated that he believes ISIS is behind it. Suruc has already been a battleground for Syrian rebels, Kurdish forces and ISIS in the past. Read more at CNN.

Ashley Madison, Notorious Adultery Matchmaking Site, Gets Hacked

Some 37 million Ashley Madison users are at risk of being exposed, as hackers are claiming they will release confidential information on the site unless it is shut down. The group behind the cyber attack calls themselves “The Impact Team” and have complained that the company behind Ashley Madison kept user information after they were paid by users to delete their old profiles. The chief executive of Ashley Madison’s parent company, Avid Life Media, believes it was an inside job. Read more at Krebs On Security.

Mitsubishi Apologizes To American Prisoners Of War For Forced Labor During WWII

Just shy of the 70th anniversary of World War II, Mitsubishi held a ceremony in Los Angeles yesterday apologizing to American prisoners of war for forcing them to work in mines on behalf of Mitsubishi Mining Co. Mitsubishi is the first Japanese company to issue such an apology since its government atoned for forced labor practices in 2010. James Murphy, a 94-year-old man who was one of the few surviving prisoners of war that had been forced to work was at the ceremony to accept Mitsubishi’s apology. Read more at the BBC.
