The Democratic presidential candidates are scheduled to debate for the eighth time Wednesday night in Miami, after splitting primaries in Michigan and Mississippi on Tuesday. While Sen. Bernie Sanders surprised former Secretary of State Hillary C

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders declined to call Republican front-runner Donald Trump a racist when asked the question during a debate Wednesday at Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida. But they hammered away at his racist and xenophobic rhetoric.

From Politico:

“If I’m so fortunate enough to be the Democratic nominee, there will be a lot of time to talk about him,” Clinton said after being asked whether Trump was racist. She noted to applause that she has said “vasta” — Spanish for “enough” — when Trump described Mexican immigrants as rapists.

“His trafficking in prejudice and paranoia has no place in our political system, especially from someone running for president who couldn’t decide whether or not to disavow the Ku Klux Klan and David Duke. So people can draw their own conclusions about him,” Clinton said. “I think what he has promoted is not at all in keeping with American values.”

Sanders agreed:

“The American people are never going to elect a President who insults Mexicans, who insults Muslims, who insults immigrants, who insults women, and insults African Americans,” Sanders said.

Should the candidates have said more? Sound off in comments.
This is a developing story...
