Officer pleads guilty in the case of Walter Scott

In South Carolina the former police officer who shot and killed Walter Scott plead guilty to using excessive force.  A video shows former officer Michael Slager shooting Scott in the back as he ran away from a traffic stop.  Scott’s brother Anthony and mother Judy are pleased with the developments.  The plea agreement states that the government will ask the court to apply sentencing guidelines for second degree murder, which carries up to 25 years in prison.  Former officer Slager was taken into custody and will remain there until sentencing later this year.

 

In Washington D.C. The House has passed a new bill

In D.C., The House has passed a bill that allows companies to give workers time off rather than overtime pay.  No democrat voted for the measure they complained that the bill undermines the fair labor standards act.
