Hapeville Elementary School was placed on lockdown Monday morning after a man was shot at a nearby apartment complex, police said.

Hapeville police dispatchers said the shooting happened about 7:45 a.m. at an apartment on King Arnold Street in the south Fulton County town.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to the stomach and leg, dispatchers said. His condition was not immediately available.

Dispatchers said nearby Hapeville Elementary was put on lockdown while police searched  for the gunman.
