Following his guilty plea to felony assault on former girlfriend Rihanna, Chris Brown is court-ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from his ex for the next five years. But the 20-year-old singer has made no secret of the fact that he’s still pining for Rihanna, from the emotional lyrics of his latest single, “Crawl,” to a pair of sentimental tweets he posted early Monday morning.

“FOR THE FELLAS: showing emotion doesn’t make u weak,” Brown tweeted. “BEING HONEST MAKES U STRONG.” That message came just moments after one that read, “I’m sorry ya’ll. Just had to post it,” which featured a link to a fan-generated montage of footage of Chris and Rihanna in their happier days.

The video plays out over Lee Carr’s appropriately syrupy ballad, “The Way We Used to Be,” and it shows Brown and Rihanna mugging for the cameras at a basketball game, singing together, hitting the town, chatting at an airport and walking through hotel lobbies.

Though Brown merely re-tweeted the link to the fan-created video, the choice of the song by young R&B singer Carr — who is now signed to the same label as Brown — seemed to capture Breezy’s mood. The tune features the refrain, “I know that I hurt and I don’t deserve you/ And you say it’s karma/ But no, I just want one more/Give me an encore/ Don’t walk out that door, baby.”

In only his second interview since his guilty plea in June, Brown spoke in general terms about the assault to Angie Martinez at New York’s Hot 97 last Wednesday, telling her “I’m learning from my mistakes every day, and I regret it every second.”
