Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz was born on September 12, 1977. He grew up in College Park, Georgia and attended North Clayton High School where he was a standout basketball player, earning an athletic scholarship to Alabama State University.
He started his rap career as Tity Boi on Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace record label, where he was one-half of the rap group Playaz Circle with Dolla Boy. 2 Chainz appeared on several Ludacris albums as well as the DTP collaborative album, Golden Grain, in 2002.
Playaz Circle released their debut album, Supply & Demand, on October 30, 2007. The lead single, “Duffle Bag Boy” featuring Lil Wayne, became a smash hit and was performed by the duo at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Playaz Circle released their second album, Flight 360: The Takeoff, on September 29, 2009. In 2011 Tity Boi decided to change his name to 2 Chainz and released the well-received mixtape, T.R.U. REALigion.
While 2 Chainz and Ludacris remain friends, he decided to leave DTP and sign with Def Jam Records. On August 14, 2012, 2 Chainz dropped his solo debut album, Based on a T.R.U. Story. The album included the hits “No Lie” featuring Drake, “I Love Dem Strippers” with Nicki Minaj, “I’m Different” and “Birthday Song” featuring Kanye West.
