Hossain told authorities that he was reenacting scenes from “Fifty Shades of Grey” when he brought the 19-year-old fellow student back to his University of Illinois at Chicago dorm room over the weekend and used multiple belts to tie her down, assault and beat her.

Allegedly, the encounter was consensual. Hossain asked the woman — a UIC student he had previously “been intimate with,” but was not currently romantically involved with — to strip for him, Steve Campbell, a spokesperson for State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, told The Post.  The victim said she had “previously been intimate” with Hossain, but the two weren’t dating and the abuse was far from consensual, said Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Karr.

The victim told police that she removed all of her clothing in his direction, except for her underwear, before her hands and feet were bound and she was tied to a bed. Once constrained by several belts, a knit cap was lowered over her eyes and a neck tie was stuffed into her mouth, she said. Hossain allegedly then removed the woman’s bra and underwear and began striking her with a belt.

Reportedly, she told Hossain no and was crying. He continued to whip her and even hit her with his fists, according to the arrest report. After the woman wriggled her arms free, Karr said, Hossain held them behind her back as he continued to sexually assault her, despite her ongoing pleas for him to stop. It was the victim’s roommate’s arrival that stopped the assault. But Hossain held the door shut to stop him (the victim’s roommate) from getting in. She managed to get free and call the police.

When Hossain was arrested later that night and allegedly admitted to assaulting the victim and that he did “something wrong.” Hossain’s bail at $500,000 and his attorney, Cook County public defender Sandra Bennewitz, told the judge that her client had been “involved with several UIC leadership programs, was a student ambassador to the alumni association and was on the triathlon team,” according to the Chicago Tribune. Of course she wants to mention these things to paint him as a good kid who just used a popular movie to act out a sexual fantasy, but all signs are pointing to assault.
