HelloBeautiful.com’s “Base Level” column features the hottest new artists we’re buzzing about. Before they make it to the summit of superstardom, we spot them at base level–the beginning of their hopeful journey to the top.
Growing up, Sebastian Mikael listened to a lot of soul music and was drawn to the sensual sounds of Sade and the soul of Marvin Gaye. But instead of pursuing a career as an artists, the singer-songwriter decided to be an engineer (he was the guy behind the board, pressing the record button).
After seeing other musicians pursue their dreams, he finally gained the courage to record a song, placed it on YouTube and the rest is history.
#TeamBeautiful spoke with Mikael about his music and touring with Wale. Ladies, say hello to Sebastian:
Name: Sebastian Mikael
Hometown: Gothenburg, Sweden
Who are some of your musical influences? My musical influences definitely lean towards Sade & Marvin Gaye. My parents would play their music in the house when I was young.
When did you realize that music was your passion? I actually started out as a engineer. I was the man pushing the record button. I was always writing songs and one day I built the confidence to put a song on YouTube. After I got a good response I continued.
What has been your biggest break thus far? Being able to tour off my first single “Last Night” featuring Wale. To see the response from fans have been the best.
If you could be the love child of two artists-dead or alive-who would they be and why? Oh that’s easy. Sade & Marvin Gaye. I gotta go with them. I would be the super child with those genes!
