Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West, a Little League baseball team that won the U.S. championship, had its historic title stripped due to a rule violation, according to ESPN.
An investigation found that Jackie Robinson West assembled what the publication called “a super team” by using a falsified boundary map. Stephen D. Keener, the president and CEO of Little League International, addressed the matter by saying he had no choice.
“Quite honestly, we had to do this,” Keener told ESPN on Wednesday. “We had to maintain the integrity of the Little League program… As painful as this is, it’s a necessary outcome from what we finally have been able to confirm.”
Keener went on to say he felt “horribly” for the children impacted by the decision and that he placed no blame on the kids. So, we’ve heard what Keener had to say. What about Chi Town’s Twista? He sees that there’s more to the story.
“I’m outraged,” Twista said in an interview with TMZ. “You don’t see this extensive of an investigation happen unless it happens to black people.”
Plus, he added that there were reasons for kids having to travel to different parks to play ball.
“There was a park in the Dolton area that got torn down, that made the kids have to even play at Jackie Robinson,” he explained. “No one pays attention to what they have to go through to play baseball.”
President Obama, who honored Jackie Robinson West at The White House, also had a statement about the unfairness here.
“The president is proud of the way they represented their city and the way they represented the country,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said to press. “The fact is some dirty dealing by some adults doesn’t take anything away from the accomplishments of those young men.”
So, we all can agree this is wrong for the kids, right? Then, why did it have to happen? Sound off in the comments section.
