Uncle Snoops Army Presents: How The West Was Won

Ever since Top Dawg Entertainment rose to prominence at the turn of the decade, conversations comparing the label to fellow West Coast imprint Death Row Records have come in spades.

The topic was recently revisited when Ab-Soul stopped through Snoop Dogg’s Double G News network. After the TDE rapper recalled how he first became involved with the label, Snoop Dogg called Top Dawg Entertainment “a mini version of Death Row.”

“Ya’ll moving right there,” Snoop Dogg says of TDE’s success. “Ya’ll like a mini version of Death Row [Records],” Snoop Dogg says. “For real though, ya’ll doing it. It looks good. It feels good and it’s got the right spirit on it and people fuck with it so, keep up the good work.”

Nevertheless, it appears Snoop Dogg hasn’t always felt this way. During an interview with VIBE in late 2013, Snoop Dogg shot down similarities between the two labels.

“No, they’re not the new Death Row,” Snoop Dogg said at the time. “Because TDE did it completely differently than Death Row did it.

“I don’t feel like TDE and Death Row are the same thing in any way,” Snoop Dogg later added. “I feel like Death Row paved the way for TDE to do it in their own way so they can stay around for 20 years from now.”
