Republicans are holding up the confirmation process for Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch over one key issue.

The GOP is really dragging its heels on clearing Loretta to take her place as the next Attorney General of the United States. A Senate Judiciary Committee voted to confirm Loretta last month, opening the process up to the rest of the Senate. It was also decided that they wouldn’t take the next step in the confirmation process until after the Senate’s recent recess, pushing the vote to this month.

Although the Senate vote is set to take place five weeks after her confirmation hearing, PolHudson reports that it now seems that Republicans may stall things even longer because of her stance on President Barack Obama’s executive order on immigration.

Senator Chuck Schumer is fed up with the GOP’s alleged “temper tantrum on immigration” postponing the vote of a well-qualified candidate.

“It’s been 117 days that the nomination of an incredibly talented, capable and dedicated public servant has languished, and so far our Republicans colleagues have given us no indication they’re ready to move forward,’’ he told reporters during a conference call today. “The delays from our colleagues on the other side of the aisle have gone on for far too long. She’s qualified, she’s accomplished and she’s ready to become attorney general.’’

In an effort to bring the process up to speed, Chuck and the Senate Democratic Caucus have sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to request a floor vote. Sen. McConnell’s spokesperson has released a statement pointing out, however, that a confirmation vote has already been placed on the Senate’s executive calendar for this year.

“The senators on the conference call knew before their call that the leader had already announced publicly that she would get a vote,’’ the rep stated. “I know it’s a slow news day and all, but come on.’’
