Actor Clifton Powell stopped by the show to talk about Saint’s & Sinners, playing Pinky and more!
He shares with us that even though he is known for playing the bad guy like Cutty in Dead Presidents, its really harder for him because he is nothing like that.
He reveals where the training to play these actors began:
“I try to tell people with my training, that I’ve been blessed to have a range of characters to be able to play Dr. King, to morph into Pinky, Cutty…I started in Washington D.C., I wanted to play football, I never had aspirations to be an actor, you know sometimes I think God has plans for you….I got into acting in 10th grade, I matriculated to Emerson College in Boston…did children’s theatre…once I graduated from 79-89, I went to New York for more training.”
He also will be hosting a master class here in Atlanta:
“I’m gonna come down sometime between May-August and start some master classes so we can talk about the fundamentals…from voice training, diction, coloring words…when you study, all of that is voice placement, its pacing, it’s intonation.”
He also got overwhelmed for a moment talking about being there to support his son who’s headed to USC for football:
“It’s really big to be able to be in the limelight is deep…to be able to split that and take care of your kids. I’m really big on African American fathers being in their child’s lives and be there financially also. I wasn’t as financially responsible with my kids as I should’ve been.”
Tune in to Saint’s & Sinners, Bounce TV, Sunday 9/8c.
