Other than a few guest appearances here and there, Jennifer Hudson has been relatively quiet on the acting front since her breakout performance in “Dreamgirls”. She completely nailed the role of Effie White and it left fans itching at the chance to see her on the big screen again. Luckily, that chance may come sooner than we anticipated.
Word on the streetz is that Hudson is set to play soul singer Aretha Franklin in a new biopic! Sources say that the film, which will be set in the 60’s, will cover Franklin’s journey from a gospel singer to the legendary vocalist that we know and love today.
From The Tracking Board:
The film will also explore the Queen of Soul’s interpersonal relationships, most notably how her abusive husband and autocratic father helped inspire and shape her epochal music during that time. Universal Pictures executive and prolific producer Scott Bernstein is spearheading the project, having acquired Franklin’s life rights.
We’re already anticipating the slay that Jennifer’s going to bring!
