Remaking (or in this case rebooting) a popular film can be a very tricky thing to pull off, as fans are bound to be extremely protective of the original and hesitant of the outcome of something new. However every once and awhile redoing a classic pays off in a great way, which is exactly what actress Meagan Good is hoping will happen with her latest foray into scripted television as the iconic character Foxy Brown.

Popular streaming service Hulu and Meagan Good could be on to something fantastic, as it was recently announced that both are teaming up for a scripted series reboot of the 70s blaxploitation icon Foxy Brown. Originally played by the legendary Pam Grier in the 1974 film, the badass female hero defined a generation of women who finally saw themselves onscreen not needing the protection of a man. Now Good, her husband Devon Franklin and Hulu are hoping that an entirely new generation will appreciate the Foxy Brown legacy. Industry insider Deadline has all the details about the new series and more.

A cult movie title, the 1974 “Foxy Brown,” is headed to television a with a TV series adaptation starring Meagan Good in the iconic role. In a competitive situation, the project, executive produced by DeVon Franklin and Tony Krantz, has landed at Hulu for development. MGM TV is the studio.

“Empire” co-executive producer Malcolm Spellman and “Hand of God” creator Ben Watkins will write the TV version, a modern reimagining of the 1974 movie and the larger-than-life Foxy Brown character, originally played by Pam Grier in what is still recognized the ultimate portrayal of a strong and powerful African-American woman.

Taking on the Foxy role has been a passion for Good. She also will serve as a producer on the series, executive produced by her husband, producer Franklin via his Franklin Entertainment, Krantz through his Flame Ventures, showrunners Spellman and Watkins as well as Good’s managers at Untitled Entertainment, Jason Weinberg & Evan Hainey. Drew Comins of Flame will serve as co-executive producer.

With so many amazing television series’ starring African-American leads currently dominating the entertainment landscape, there are high hopes that this could work if everything falls into place.
