‘Power’ Recap – Season 5, Ep. 9: There’s a Snitch Among Us

The father/son dynamic unfolds in curious ways, and Angela’s clock may have run out for real this time. Death, deceit and deals make the headlines in this week’s episode of Power.

The episode beings with a grizzly TV news obituary for fallen gangsta Kanan Stark, as reporters and the community try to make sense of the quadruple murder from a known felon. As Tariq watches the news, he can hear the commotion from the living room, where Tasha, Ghost and Tommy discuss how the Kanan setup unfolded.

Ghost is upset that Tasha went behind his back, and put Tariq in danger. Tasha is upset that Kanan wasn’t the main target to frame from the beginning. Tommy is there to provide peanut gallery level humor and ad-libs. Tariq interrupts the quarrel to take credit for Kanan’s murder. He didn’t divulge the true danger in the plan and knew the only way out was for Kanan to die. He remains indignant towards Ghost for lying about his past, and reiterates that he’s a real g now, a school won’t change him, and Ghost needs to put him on to game or get out of the way. Needless to say, Ghost didn’t oblige. Tariq ends up ditching school to meet with Vincent, accept condolences for Kanan’s death, and continue the drug business on a trail basis. Vincent agrees, and also puts Tariq in contact with a good fake ID connect who supplies Tariq with a new identity “Erick Stark” so he can pickup Kanan’s ashes from the police. The adventures of “Street Tariq” have just begun.

The U.S. District Attorney’s office looks like it will cease, as they cannot make a logical connection between Kanan and Angela Valdez. Tameeka wants to end the investigation, but Mak and Saxe’s bloodlust for Angela’s job won’t be satiated that easily. They decide to turn up the heat on their contacts to get results ASAP.

They threaten Teresi with surveillance pictures of his meetings with Mak and Saxe unless he can provide info to take down Tommy and Ghost. They also coerce Proctor to wear a wire in his meetings with Ghost in order to find any info about Angela’s true motives. Proctor agrees to wear the wire in exchange for a guarantee that Mak and Saxe would back off for good. During his meeting with Ghost, he uses nonverbal communication to inform him that their conversation was being recorded. At the same time, he’s trying to convince Ghost to snitch on Angela. After Proctor cuts off the recording, and things get physical, he explains that the Feds are coming and anyone around Angela will fall. So Ghost needs to decide if Angela is worth taking another potential loss for himself and his family.

Angela meanwhile scores another major victory with the capture of Alicia Jimenez. Dre offered up his former boss after getting demoted by Alicia once Diego’s head appeared at a Bassett hotel. Since Dre couldn’t expand the organization overseas, Alicia decided to elevate Cristobal over him. While there were “no hard feelings”, Dre made a business decision and received immunity from Angela for the location of Cristobal and Alicia’s “meeting”. While the office celebrated another major W, Angela discovers Mak and Saxe lurking around. After some additional digging, she finds the Teresi surveillance photos and confronts Mak for confirmation on their informant. Once Mak confirms it is Teresi, Angela takes the info to Ghost so he can handle it in the best way he knows how…

With the heat mounting on Teresi, he has two options: Rat Tommy out or keep him in the family. When their drug movement into the M.C.C. gets slightly haunted, snitching is suspected. Sammy thinks it’s Tommy and gives Teresi a stern warning that Tommy should be the one to fall to the Feds, or their operation will fall. Teresi agrees, but when he calls Make and Saxe, he gives up Ghost for the Sandoval murder instead. Sammy overhears this and threatens to tell Tommy who his father really is. At that moment, Teresi kills Sammy and “outs” hims as the real snitch, to Tommy’s disbelief. Meanwhile, Ghost visits with Vincent to drop the Teresi photos and propose he tells Tommy so they both eliminate a common enemy. Vincent gives the order to kills Teresi to Tommy, who doesn’t want to believe his father is a snitch, but knows the ironclad evidence isn’t fake.

Tommy goes on one final ride with Teresi, where he takes his dad to see Connie in the hospital on last time. Tommy let’s Teresi know that he knows everything about how he got out early. Although Teresi chose to keep Tommy out of prison, the betrayal was too much to overcome. Tommy takes Teresi home for one last talk before killing Teresi and dropping his body at the family cemetary. With one problem eliminated for Tommy, another huge problem arose for Angela. Mak telling Angela about Teresi was a test. Since he was killed after the information was leaked, this implicates Angela in his death. Tameeka reveals the investigation to Angela and tells her to name names, or go away for a long time. What’s Angela gonna do?
