A new security plan, coupled with a much smaller than usual crowd, made for a peaceful resumption of Piedmont Park’s summer film series Thursday night. Atlanta police reported no arrests and no major disruptions.

Atlanta police and sponsors of Screen on the Green at Piedmont Park plan to use lessons learned from the last movie viewing when they show “Dreamgirls” tonight. The summer movie series hopes to keep things quiet since the showings were temporarily suspended after marauding teens took over the park during the June 3 screening of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

On-duty police will be patrolling Piedmont Park for the remainder of this year's Screen on the Green features -- a first for the outdoor film series. More off-duty cops also will be hired as part of a new security plan unveiled Monday by city and park officials.

When Caitlin McLain first heard press reports about chaos during Screen on the Green at Piedmont Park, she assumed it was from the May 27 showing of “National Treasure.”
