imagesAfter years of being glamorized by hip-hop culture, a high-end prescription cough syrup brand, known in the streets as lean, has been taken off the market.

According to TMZ.com, a rep for Actavis — which produces the popular Promethazine Codeine product — credited the halt in production and sales to recent negative media attention over drug abuse worries.

“Given [recent media attention], Actavis has made the bold and unprecedented decision to cease all production and sales of its Promethazine Codeine product,” said a rep for the company.

Before the announcement, pint bottles sold for around $800. Now, TMZ reports that some rappers are offering up to $100,000 to get whatever’s left from their suppliers.
