The 2012 MTV VMA nominations are in and Rihanna and Drake lead the pack with 5 nods each.

The nominations were officially announced this morning, and Rihanna is up for Video of The Year, in which she has two chances to win with “We Found Love” and her Drake duet “Take Care,” as well as Best Pop Video and Best Female Video.

She is also nominated for Best Choreography, and Best Visual Effects for “Where Have You Been.”

Drake was nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video (“HYFR” with Lil Wayne), Best Male Video (“Take Care”), Best Art Direction (“Take Care”) and Best Cinematography (“Take Care”).

Other leading nominees include Rihanna’ BFF Katy Perry, who was last year’s big winner, who received four nominations.

The show will air live from Los Angeles on September 7th and will feature a performance from four-time VMA winner Alicia Keys, who will debut a new track at the award show.
