The Supreme Court denied the appeal of a Minnesota woman Monday, who was ordered to pay $222,000 for unauthorized music downloads.

The justices declined to comment on holding up the ruling against Jammie Thomas-Rasset, after she filed court papers saying the ordered payment was excessive.

Despite most of the thousands of lawsuits filed by the music industry being settled for $3,500, Thomas-Rasset and Boston University student Joel Tenenbaum decided to take the industry to trial. Both were ordered to pay six figure penalties. While Thomas-Rasset’s$222,000 sounds bad, Tenenbaum was ordered to pay a whopping $675,000.
