The Los Angeles Police Department is heading an investigation to learn if police officers currently on the force attended a dinner that featured a song making fun of Michael Brown’s death. Last week retired LAPD officer Joe Myers hosted a dinner after a charity golf tournament at the Glendale Elks Lodge where a former federal law enforcement office and private investigator sang the vile “parody” song. TMZ is reporting Gary Fishell, performed the song in front of a room filled with 50-60 people who attended the dinner, some allegedly being retired and current police officers among civilian guests. Fishell, who is currently a private investigator made a song based off of “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” spoofing Brown’s death at the hands of former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

The lyrics of the song feature:
Michael Brown learned a lesson about a messin’
With a badass policeman
And he’s bad, bad Michael Brown
Baddest thug in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
Meaner than a junkyard dog
Two men took to fightin’
And Michael punched in through the door
And Michael looked like some old Swiss cheese
His brain was splattered on the floor
And he’s dead, dead Michael Brown
Deadest man in the whole damn town
His whole life’s long gone
Deader than a roadkill dog
When confronted by TMZ about the song, Myers retorted:
How can I dictate what he [Fishell] says in a song? This is America. We can say what we want. This is a free America.
Meanwhile Fishell’s attorney told the site his client is a “goofball” who writes silly songs for fun. When asked why Fishell would sing such a despicable song mocking Brown’s death, Fishell’s attorney claimed:
He thought the room would get a kick out of it.
LAPD’s Internal Affairs isn’t laughing and is investigating to find out if any active police officers were at the event. If officers who are currently on the force were at the dinner, I.A. will deduce if they displayed, “conduct unbecoming of a police officer,” which may lead to discipline.
