paris-gunmenTwo gunmen Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene have taken several hostages at a Port de Vincennes area supermarket.

This week, two gunmen, brothers (Cherif and Said Kouachi) went into the French publication Charlie Hebdo and executed several staff members and today, they have simultaneously taken a hostage at the site of the French publication as Coulibaly and Boumeddiene took hostages at the supermarket. Reports claim the two Bonnie & Clyde-like suspects walked into the store and immediately began shooting. A police official told The Guardian that a gunman yelled, “You know who I am!” as he opened fire.

Clouibaly has been reported to be connected to the Kouachi brothers, but there is not confirmation that he and Boumeddiene had anything to do with Thursday’s police killing after the Charlie Hebdo massacre. CNN is reporting that some of the hostages at the supermarket have been killed and there’s not an exact number of murdered hostages. As of 11:53 a.m., the remaining hostages have been freed from the store and Coulibaly has been killed. Boumeddiene is still on the run. It’s being reported by CNN that Boumeddiene was able to escape by pretending to be one of the hostages. A source tells Reuters that Amedy Coulibaly trained in the same terrorist cell as Charlie Hebdo shooters Cherif and Said Kouachi.

The Kouachi brothers simultaneously took hostages at the Charlie Hebdo site and have been killed by French police. French prime minister Manuel Valls said both men were known to intelligence services. The younger brother, Cherif, was convicted of terrorism charges in 2008 for his links to a network sending jihadis to fight American forces in Iraq. A third suspect in the Charlie Hebdo shooting, 18-year-old Mourad Hamyd, surrendered at a police station on Wednesday evening after hearing his name linked to the attacks. His relationship to the Kouachi brothers was unclear.

We will keep you posted with the details from this tragic and complicated attack.
